Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Madam Serefina Otazi. The abduction occurred a day after a younger sister of Governor Seriake Dickson, Miss Nancy Dickson, was kidnapped alongside her salesgirl in Yenagoa.
It was learnt that Otazi (the commissioner) was abducted on Sunday afternoon in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s hometown of Otuoke.A nephew of the commissioner, Mr. Patrick Oba, said that she was kidnapped in Otuoke on her way to Ewoi community in the Ogbia Local Government Area of the state for a funeral.
It was learnt that the kidnappers reportedly whisked away the victim who was in company with two ladies.
It was also learnt that when the kidnappers attacked her, they forcibly took away her car keys ostensibly to frustrate attempts to report the crime.
It was gathered that the two female occupants of the car and the driver were not harmed by the gunmen who sped off to an unknown destination in their own vehicle.
Otazi had served as Commissioner for Women Affairs and as an Acting Chairman of Ogbia LGA.
Also, a family member, Mr. Endurance Frank, said that the family had reported the incident to the police.
He urged the kidnappers to release the victim unhurt.
When contacted, the spokesperson for Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the abduction.
