The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Saleh Fhied has said his country is counting on the support of President Muhammadu Buhari and the international community for the
establishment of an independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital.
The envoy called on the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and African countries to support efforts in setting a time-frame for ending the occupation of Palestine by the State of Israel.Speaking during the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Monday in Abuja, Fhied stated that the only way to end the current violence and bloodshed in his country was for the international community to push for a sovereign Palestinian State.
Fhied said, “We are counting on President Buhari’s support for the establishment of a sovereign state of Palestine as he promised when he spoke on September 28 on Palestinian/Israel issue in United Kingdom.
“We are very optimistic that Nigeria will spare no effort in promoting Palestinian issues; African countries are supporting Palestine every way they could.”
The ambassador who had spent 20 years as a diplomat in Nigeria insisted that the Palestinian people would not be cowed by acts of violence against them, including demolitions, evictions, imprisonment and torture.
He flayed alleged aggression by Israel against his compatriots and admonished the international community to hold the Jewish state responsible for the ongoing violence in Palestine.
The envoy stressed that the only way to achieve peace was to restore to the ancient land its equilibrium, “free from the merciless practices of this era’s last standing occupying power.”
